My 2014 was giving me issues as well. Seemed like it was a $1000 every time so I did a complete EGR and DEF delete at 175,000kms. Should have done that a lot sooner. I have had no issues since and now have 330,000kms on it.
I have a 2014 with 330,000kms on it and have never plugged it in even this past Dec when we had 3 weeks of -25C and colder weather. It started every time. I would let the coolant temp get to above 0C before driving, usually 3-5 mins. I used to plug in my Cummins on a timer for only 1.5hrs...
I have a 2014 with 315000km and going strong. Love the truck. I tow a 26ft rv with no issues. If you plan to keep, delete. Check out Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer.
I have a 2014 with 303k now on it. Did the full delete at 240k. Wished I did it sooner. Have had none of the codes since. Had it done at Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer, AB.
I live in Canada and I never plug in my 2014. My unheated garage was in the teens on the F scale of temp this past February. It would sit outside at work for 9 hours at -30F or below and started every time. If you plug in a block heater, put it on a timer. All you need is 2 hours.
My truck now has 297,000km and runs great. I had a complete EGR removal and DEF delete done by LightSpeed. Cost CA$2200. Improved my average fuel consumption from 11.3 to 9.8L/100km. I pull a 26ft RV that weighs 6300lbs with no issue and get 16-18L/100km when pulling it. The only thing is...
My 2014 did a similar thing. I was changing fuel filters every 2 months and then it went into limp mode. The dealership reset and said the ordered the EGR that was recalled. They had no idea when it would be available so i shopped for a delete. Found Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer, AB...
I would get rid of the EGR. Likely your problem. At Lightspeed, it cost me $2200 for the delete package installed. If you can do it yourself, contact HD Diesel. I hear they are very helpful.
Jeez, I paid CA$1100 for a water pump replacement.
As for delete, I did that last summer on may 2014. Should have done it years earlier. Check out Lightspeed Innovations in Red Deer, AB or HD Diesel out of Winnipeg.
Poor man's winter front - piece of carboard in front of the rad under the hood. It's been pushing -40 here in central Alberta last week and it works fine. I park in an unheated garage over night at a temp of -10C (14F) and trucks starts fine without a block heater. I drive it easy for about 6...
Here in Alberta I have my truck parked at work for over 8 hours at -30C (-22F) without it plugged in. It cycles the glow plugs and cranks slower than normal but fires and starts with no issues. I would clean the battery connections and make sure they are tight. A weak battery may freeze at...
I have the same problem with my remote start at temps below -10C. It started after I did the EGR/DEF delete last Aug. I am going to talk to the shop that did the delete to see if it is just a computer setting. No codes are showing.
Last winter at -30C I never plugged it in at work and had no problem starting my 2014. So far this winter at -23C no problems either. Mine is parked in an unheated garage over night.
I have a 2014 that has 290,000km about 181,000 miles. I drive 35km each way to work on highway every day and it purrs along getting using 10.3 L/100km of fuel which I think is about 22 miles per US gallon. I did an EGR/DEF delete last August at Lightspeed
Innovations in Red Deer, AB. Should...
