Did you have all the recalls done?
Yes, I did. Bought at carmax, had the DPF replaced under warranty at the dealer and they performed the emissions recall update. the extended warranty as I understand it does not cover the crank. just the cylinder heads :(

What year and mileage? You probably fell victim to a spun bearing. FCA/Stellantis has been replacing engines under the 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. If you're outside of warranty, a new engine can be bought for $7,600 and installed for about $1,800 depending on the dealer/shop.

2016, 74,000 miles. dealer wants $14,000 - warranty ran out in august 2021 - if i go with the dealer - they provide 2-year - 24k warranty. if I buy a crate (long block) i have seen them as low as 3700 and as high as 7700. they come with a 1 year warranty - but no labor covered. - I have so make a decision - I am renting a car out-of pocket... I miss my truck already. I would prefer the 3rd gen motor if its replaced, but the dealer says that the VIN will determine the engine they install. - my mechanic doesnt do engines - but he estimated the install to run about 4k.

A new crate engine comes with a 2 year/100,000 mile warranty. Before COVID, the engines were $6,400 dollars! They keep going up in price!

dealer wants $14,000
I'd be willing to pay the dealer $11,000, but not a penny more. I would negotiate with your dealer, or get prices from other dealer, or find an independent shop.

Thats what I am working on now. Thanks for your feedback. I want to get the Gen3 Motor also.

You won't be able to put a gen 3 engine in your truck without a lot of time, money, and customization. Replace your engine with another 2014 - 2019 gen II engine.

Now, FCA has no engines available in the US according to the dealer. Also - after market crate motors not available. This is turning into a nightmare. they cant give me any information of when the motor will be available.

Crate engines have been on backorder for several months now. The engine can still be ordered, but it might take a 4 - 8 weeks before one arrives.

Great. Engine fails 6 months after warranty. Rental cars are 400 a week. They don't have the parts to make me whole. Now I have to wait 8 weeks. Why did I buy anything from FCA, Dodge etc. I have called 3 times, pleaded with the dealer. All I get is "I am sorry". This STINKS.

Yup, it's not a winning situation. This is why I own two trucks (2015 EcoDiesel and 2020 EcoDiesel). If one goes down, I have a backup. Life is a game; we have to learn how to play it.

😃 expensive game.

It sure can be. It's a form of gambling. So far, I haven't had any repairs on the 2015 outside of warranty. We bought it brand new for $38,000 and got the $3,075 settlement check a few years later. The truck now has 101,000 miles. We liked the 2015 EcoDiesel so much that we bought a 2020 EcoDiesel brand new. So far, it's been a great truck, too. I work them pretty hard.
