Loss of acceleration and fuel mileage and over all pulling power

I have a 2016 eco diesel. Very disappointing with the recall. Feels like a dog and really wish I had done research and never had the recall done.Trusted what they said. I have lost fuel mileage, pulling power and especially no power when first accelerating. I loved my Ram and planned on buying a new one in 2020. Probably will go back to GM. I bragged on how great a truck it was to everyone but am very dissatisfied.

Welcome to the forum.. you're in the same boat as others! Many are disappointed in the recall. Maybe Ram will come up with another fix to help out with the power issues.

I have had the same results that you have. Not happy at all about the recall and how my truck acts. It is nothing like the truck I bought. Zero power on take off. Within a week I had the check engine light, service Electronic Throttle Control, and Diesel Exhaust Filter 100% full. Really frustrated.

Same experience here. Turbo lag was terrible, power overall seemed low compared to my norm. My average seemed up by 2mpg but I did not keep it long, as the lag and loss of power it was apparent that I would not have made the pulling trip to Montana that we had just finished. The GDE tune installed a week and a half after AEM install with impressive results, no turbo lag cold or hot, more torque and power apparent, not smoke the tires but can feel. As a former professional racer I trust the seat of my pants. The tune was the best thing I have done to my truck. We now have over 102k miles. The wife can't wait to get our settlement check to buy her tune.

Yep take some of that $3,075 and put it toward an ECM & TCM tune be it GDE, PPEI, or Sofa King and have a stronger better running, clean oil, less problematic longer living and more fuel efficient truck than stock pre AEM. Pick up the wonderful turbo brake as well.

It’s a crazy over reaching government we live with today but with a little extra work and having money provided you will again be a very happy camper. GM FCA or Ford none are beyond the control & oppressive out of check EPA. So switching brands doesn’t fix the problem. But this time with a little inconvenience & extra work, money provided (to be paid by consumers in future truck purchases) you will come out ahead.

583,000 miles on my Ecodiesel worked commercially transporting TTs & boats. 371k on the first motor before low coolant (thanks EPA EGR cooler) it pushed a head gasket. My bad. Since 212k only issue to date was from a load of bad fuel. ECM & TCM tunes were a good investment for me.

My new 2018 seems to run well. Only 1500 miles on it. In the morning it does have some turbo lag. I can't do the delete thing as I am in Kalifornia. They check here every two years.

I talked to the dealer today complaining about the loss of power and mpg after the recall work. He told me that as part of the recall the computer was reset back to original, so the truck had to "learn" from my driving style again. I honestly do not know enough about this issue to call "BS", but my "BS" monitor was certainly peaked....

After 5 trips to the service center this year (4 for particulate filter issues), I'm have a very hard time staying in love with my truck.

my 2016 ram has been in shop in elk grove 3 different times after emission upgrade for lack of power and drop in mpg,with no answers and I was told nobody else is having this problem by advisor .good to see i'm not the only the one with a problem.so whats the answer to getting the problems taken care of?

I am sure this is not the best solution, but I am not ready to go to a full delete yet. I just ordered a Banks Derringer Tuner w/iDash. I figured I would see if it solves any of the issues. If not, off to eBay it will go.

BTW: The truck is back at the dealer again for the 4th time since April for a Particulate Filter issue. At least this time they are replacing the filter (on their dime.) We'll see if that will keep the damn check engine light off for more than 3 weeks.

I’m interested in the Banks unit as well being it is CARB okay. I sent then a message about the carbon issue. Being the derringer affects sensors it may be a fix. Who knows.

I may b wrong but check old posts a member took his truck in for work and it was denied because of a banks and I was told by ram a k/n filter will also void warranty

I believe the Banks Derringer is a just a plug in product. It is not suppose to void any warranties. However going to a cold air filter does modify/delete emission "stuff", but both would be easy to remove/replace with original when you need servicing.

I have had a couple under hood after market items before. As long as they have the CARB sticker on them all is well. I’m pretty certain S&B stir filters are all CARB tagged. Ditto with most BANKs stuff.
The state of Kalifornia wants that CARB money.

The dealers I have dealt with have no issues with mods, but if something is "other than stock" they won't mess with it. I.E., if you have aftermarket wheels/tires they won't rotate them. But along with that, anything that can alter the ECU could also alter whether they will warrant any problems associated to that ECU. So by use owners trying to save our engine we could be voiding the warranty on the engine. It's a coin toss.

Banks derringer won’t solve AEM woes. K&N and Ram air boxes are worthless for turbo charged vehicles. The computer does have to re learn about your driving habits but this is done quickly is minor and was being used as a lame excuse to get you to go away because he had no solution for you.

Just because you live under the governmental tyranny of Commiefornias democratic socialist overlords doesn’t mean you can’t exercise your right to be an American. So it’s a hurdle. It’s your truck money & life. When tuned its far more green all things considered and some do pass smog as all emissions equipment can be left intact. The off road tunes turn off pointless EGR use better & far less problematic regen strategies turn off fuel wasting pilot injections plus more. Last I knew Sofa King still does ECM & TCM tunes for anybody. Other people have gotten an out of state mailbox with physical address just so they could get a cleaner running more powerful & fuel efficient truck. One that doesn’t regularly flash an orange check engine light for a trivial issue to direct you in for a dealer frisking.

BTW a cheap simple two button Bosch OBD 1000 scan tool can be used to both read & clear your code or orange light. Between a tune & scan tool your truck should almost never need to see a dealership service bay. Mine hasn’t and many others don’t. If you don’t apply this info you didn’t want a solution and a better running less problematic truck you just wanted to bitch. If that’s the case consider trading in your truck and getting one of the heavily tax payer subsidized battery cars. Then you get a whole new set of problems to learn about and your emissions come out a smoke stack instead of your tailpipe.
