News FCA can now sell the 2017 EcoDiesel

Wow, the EcoDiesel has been plagued by certification problems since its introduction in 2013. Diesel is a "bad boy" because CO2 is just one component in its complex and toxic emissions. In particular nitrogen oxides and particulates are both highly dangerous. It is difficult to control all these...

Tried the EcoDiesel for 4 months in 2014 but swapped it for a 2500 because of payload limit with 4-corner air suspension (about 1500 lbs.).

    EcoDiesel DPF Problems and Questions

Longevity of the truck or people? Diesel exhaust sans the pollution systems causes cancer among other things. Not to mention our planet's health from the nitrogen oxides produced. What year Duramax do you have? Early pollution systems and engine designs were not as good as today. And systems...

Starting the EcoDiesel in cold weather

None reported. It has been tested in Canada and northern states. The fuel filter and DEF are heated in very cold conditions, and a block heater is required for extreme cold (-20F).

2015 Ford F150 lighter and with a 2.7 EcoBoost Engine

It will help when unloaded. Economy will plummet when the gas engine is asked to carry a heavy load or pull a trailer. The diesel will be far less affected. So in practical terms it comes down to how often you tow or carry a load.

    EcoDiesel DPF Problems and Questions

Dealer's choice but removing the emission systems seems more about making a political statement than in actually improving mileage or safety. There are few reports of fires caused by DPF systems and those tend to involve poor fuel quality and lack of maintenance. The gains will be small unless...

    Breaking in Period

According to the Owner's Manual there is no break-in period for normal use. However, it asks you to not tow for the first 500 miles, and for the first 500 miles of towing to not exceed 50 mph and to not start at full throttle. In general they recommend that you should warm up the engine before...

    EcoDiesel Oil Change Intervals

It has been available for a couple months at RamTrucks dot com. Go to this link to download manuals. The Ram 1500 Owner's Manual is over 700 pages. The joke is that you will need to buy a second truck to carry the hard copy.

EcoDiesel Ram already a "Big Hit" Report

The Grand Cherokee has led the way with the diesel which should help keep Ram problems to a minimum. Of course, these are complicated vehicles even without the new engine, so some snags are to be expected. I just hope the dealer's service department is getting the support it needs!

    Ram styling from other brands

Of course, the interior of the Ram is superior as are the engine, transmission and suspension.

    Ram styling from other brands

It is definitely more to my liking than the GM/Chevy, Toyota and Nissan, and it is on a par with the Ford. Much depends on the color and bumper style which can make certain lines pop.

    Fuel Economy?

As always the actual mpg will depend on driving style, conditions and maintenance. The EcoDiesel is likely to best the Hemi by 6 to 8 mpg in most situations. Open highway cruising has been reported to be over 30. The EPA rating will probably be less as is often the case with diesels.

    EcoDiesel engine options for more?

If it is a success, certainly. For now Ram is worried about being able to meet current demand.
