Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

Just thought this might be a tell tale sign that the CP4 is junk!?

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

It should be covered regardless. Please see my post from Sept. 12, 2021. She should have received an extended warranty notice just for the Crankshaft tone wheel. At a minimum, if she had to pay out of pocket to have it fixed then FCA (Stellantis, now) is responsible to re-imburse those costs.

    SFT Changes

I have also noticed the shifting issues with the latest SFT tunes (actually been dealing with it since last fall) and I have discussed this with them and they are not acknowledging the changes. I am not sure what they are trying to accomplish but I would gladly go back to the original tunes I...

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

I just received this in the mail yesterday and wanted to share it. This warranty extension applies only to the Crankshaft Tone Wheel. So for those who had to pay out of pocket to get it fixed here is the opportunity to get reimbursed even if you have had the AEM modification.

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

Interesting about the part number not changing. Normally the part number would bump revisions at a minimum. For example, if they were going to keep the base 68493358, the AA suffix at the end should become AB. I have many years experience working with the OEMs as a supplier and very familiar...

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

In discussion with my dealer here in Michigan back in April when I had the VB1 and W58 recalls completed, if the tone (i.e. reluctor) wheel fails and does not damage the crank sensor then parts and labor are not covered by the AEM extended warranty. The parts and labor would only be covered if...

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

That is interesting in that I have never encountered this in my over 25 years of automotive electrical experience. Also I personally have not received the W68 letter nor does the VIN on my RAM show up on the W68 recall just the W58. So simply put, something does not add up. Also, might want...

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

Thanks for the feedback. If that is the case then what would be the purpose of 2 separate recalls for the exact same failure mode and safety issue on the same model year vehicles and engine?

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

That is my fear and it truly is not a fix for such a safety recall. A software band aid which only allows you to get off the road somewhat safely does not fix the problem and a recall is supposed to be fixed by the manufacturer. Apparently under recall W68, Stellantis (formerly FCA; AKA...

Crankshaft positioning sensor and Tone Ring Failure on Eco diesel.

Ok so back to the issue of the crank sensor fault caused by the tone wheel ring magnet delamination. Apparently there are 2 recalls, W58 and W68. Specifically the W58 fix which is a new PCM software flash but no actual physical parts are repaired/replaced. So if the crankshaft sensor loses...
