Service Electronic Throttle Control 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel

Good evening,

My jeep usually runs like a dream but occasionally acts up in cold weather. 270km on the engine, regular maintenance. Driving in a blizzard, I went into Iimp mode and threw a “service electronic throttle control” code that won’t clear with defrost, engine cycling, etc. The throttle body is nearly impossible to reach near the firewall. Any thoughts/tips on how to resolve or at least be clear limp mode until the shops reopen in the new year? Any help appreciated. Thank you.

I did a very deep dive into repair forums. I cleaned both MAP and MAF sensors (MAP was disgusting). The other recommended intervention was cleaning the throttle body, which I can’t reach in my home garage without major disassembly as it’s right up against the firewall. This component might me more accessible in your RAM? I also grabbed a cheap scanner off Amazon to clear the code and get out of limp mode and it worked. Idk if I resolved the underlying issue and I don’t know which (if any) intervention was the fix, but it’s idling smooth and I’ve driven it intentionally hard to see if it would code again and it’s ok for now.
Plans to get into a speciality shop in the new year when they’re open because don’t think I’ve addressed root cause. If you attempt any of the above, please note the MAF sensor cleaner is highly recommended across forums so you don’t damage electronic components. Idk how much it matters to use the throttle body cleaner vs brakleen ($$ difference), but I bought both.
