Thanks for the info.
So, based on your information, it appears the option will be to tune down (weaker) the engine which will get worse fuel mpg or stop using the platform completely. Again I'm not a mechanic or engineer so I'm just trying to learn a little.
Seems like this may be a drawn out...
TC Diesel,
I've been reading your posts for the last two weeks and it's opened a lot of things I hadn't considered.
So, at this point, is it your opinion that Ram will permanently abandon the 3.0 ecodiesel platform going forward? Is it an issue of being able to satisfy the EPA but kill the mpg...
I'm also interested in your thoughts on the GDE tune. I'm ready to order one but I want to keep my stock ECM for a spare and I'm struggling to drop the extra $650 to do so.

An average tank of fuel with mixed city & highway was 24-25 mpg. On the interstate at 75 mph it would do 26-27 mpg. On two lane back roads at 55-60 mpg it would show 30-32 mpg...
Honestly it didn't struggle & towed the boat fine. It's an impressive little engine. The boat loaded out is probably between 5-6k lbs.
My only real reason for trading was missing the room of a full size.
They are really nice midsize trucks, light years ahead of the old canyons & colorados but it's still a midsize truck.
I bought my Ram on a Friday & the next week the EPA suit came out! So, I've had my share of wondering if I should've traded. I haven't owned a Chrysler/Dodge truck since the...
New guy here.
I just traded my 2016 GMC Canyon 4x4 Duramax in Friday (1/6/17) on a 2016 Laramie Longhorn CCSB 4x4 ecodiesel. I really loved the Canyon & have nothing bad to say about it but after owning full size trucks for years I just couldn't adjust to the mid-size. I've owned many 1/2, 3/4...
