Catastrophic engine failure

67k miles the engine failed, no error messages, no temperature changes or loss of oil/coolant pressure according to gauges. All maintaince performed on regular basis with synthetic oil just had an oil change prior to my trip. Heard louder diesel engine sounds after towing, and oil change dealer said there was as nothing wrong with the vehicle, 2 days later the engine failed after approximately 10 miles on the highway in here was a loss of engine power, the engine shut down and said put in park to restart and the oil pressure went to zero. I checked the dipstick and the oil was as black (just had it changed). Has anybody ever gotten satisfaction or recourse for this issue? If so, was it through the dealer or through the manufacturer? The dealer says it’s out of warranty because it’s past 50,000 miles but this should’ve never happened. It seems like a manufacturer defect not a warranty problem.

It's an EPA problem. These things had gasoline engine tech force-fed on them, including the EGR, which eventually clogs up the mains and rods and creates a GIANT lump of useless steel. They discontinued this engine simply because they couldn't Dodge (pun intended) the EPA, which is now finally... back under control of someone sensible. If the dealer isn't honoring warranty work due to mileage, you might be up a creek without a paddle, however, there are claims processes that I've seen repeatedly around here where people were able to get FCA to fess up to and fix, however the waiting list is quite long. The oil color will be black as night 30 seconds after an oil change simply due to what's left in the system, so that's not the best unit of measure for these.

Sorry this happened to you. You're just another addition to those of us who pray at the altar of deletes, tunes, and secondary oil filtration systems.
