Truck gave up

Hello all. I bought my 2014 Laramie in March this year with 87,000 miles. I purchased, along with the truck, a 3 year power train warranty. Last week my wife was leaving a light and there was a poof of smoke/steam, then no power. She limped it into a parking lot and called me for a rescue. I took the truck to the local dealership and after 2 days they called with a nice little list of parts that need to be replaced. The list is as follows: replacement of turbo, turbo hoses, EGR, EGR cooler, O2 sensor, and fuel injectors. This on top of the work done for the AEM recall, totaled $15,500.

Has anyone else been through something similar? Any previous experiences would help me figure my next steps. Thank you.

If you had the AEM done, all would be covered under that extended warranty. Did mine right away so now it is covered until something like 148,000 miles.

If you delayed and did not do it - ???

Did not get the notice for the AEM before this happened. I will probably get FCA's thoughts on the issue.
Warranty inspector came out and found a metal shaving in the fuel injection pump. Warranty people say they will cover the turbo and the turbo coolant lines after I replace everything else. I'm going to talk to the shop next week and figure a way ahead. I did do some pricing and cost analysis on replacing everything myself, DPF delete, EGR and cooler delete, GDE tune, and it costs around $6000. I will just have to remove the cab myself. Looking for thoughts on the subject and if anyone has done this yet.

FCA agrees that everything is under warranty and is going to replace all damaged components. Truck is still in the shop. Does anyone know how long the engine will last after this work is done? I see multiple stories of the engine dying again.

It would be nice if there were any guarantees or a crystal ball but your new engine could last anywhere from 5 to 500,000 miles. An EGR deleting tune seems to increase chances of longevity though. Good that it is covered under warranty at least!
