Engine oil temperature

Hi I have a 2022 dodge eco diesel with 20000 miles on it run good but I think the engine oil temperature runs to hot it sits at 220-230F just cruising down the highway not pulling anything. Which many contribute to the oil slug problem. Does anyone know it there is an additional cooler you can add or a way to make it run cooler? Thanks

Normal range is 206F to 230F. This likely takes into account variable loads on the engine. What speed are you cruising down the highway at? 75-80mph, the engine is working a little, your MPGs are likely around 21 and your oil temp is to be expected, but still w/in normal range. If you are going 65mph or less, assuming you're not pulling a trailer or have a load in the bed, something seems to be dragging on the truck.

Ya it would be 75mph and I’m getting 24 to 25 mpg with not much of a wind. I would like the oil to be closer to 200 but maybe I’m just old school. But I definitely think the higher temp breaks the oil down faster and causes sludge. If anyone made one for them I would definitely be interested in a external oil cooler

I think the bigger question is did you come from a diesel background before this truck? I too had similar concerns when I first got mine, but as I got more and more familiar with this particular engine, and a few 6BT's and IDI's before that, I realized these are very different animals compared to the big block domestics, and BMW engines I came from before them. These engines are very backwards mindsets. Gas engines, you want to get the heat out, diesels, you want to keep quite a bit of heat IN. Gas engines we want higher compression and higher octane fuels, where diesels we want higher Centane numbers for easier combustion... stuff like that.

I normally run somewhere between 200-218 oil temps in south Texas - which sorta made me nervous too at first, but I have a sparkling clean oil-pickup screen, and the oil that comes out is what you typically expect to come out of a diesel engine. The simplest solution to lower the temps a little would be the AFE +2 quart aluminum oil pan. I'm going this route in the very near future. Extra oil = more oil to have to heat up, plus the cooling fins may help a bit. I went this route on the trans pan, and noticed about a 10-18 degree lowering of average temps depending on season.
