I think the main question in my post is, would it be beneficial to install the cover for the short trips to get it up to operating temperature? If I was going to be in it longer than that then I'd take it off of course.

I use a foseal obd interface from Amazon which is around 20. I was introduced to alfaobd last week and it will force a regen even at idle. It is basically a factory diagnostic tool, well worth the 50 bucks from what I can tell and we have 2 FCA cars so even better for me
