Temps: The thermostat is 208°, so you're good there. 170° on the trans is good; mine runs 180°-185°, but I don't think I have the trans cooler. I'm not specifically recalling what my oil temp runs but 224° sounds about right.
-2015 Laramie ~180K
My 2¢:
-You can try your luck with FCA, but since the factory warranty is expired, odds of getting anything are very low.
-You are going to take the financial "hit" whether you sell it broken or pay for the fix. To get some of the value back out of it, at minimum, keep it until the new engine's...
There are things you can do to reduce the chances you are affected by these problems. Generally, changing the oil at 5-7k mi instead of 10k per spec, is advised. I also use Lucas synth oil stabilizer for added protection. Getting a tune on the engine and trans will help it run cleaner (and...
First off, the conversation is about AFTER the DEF has been poured in the truck, so talking points about storage are a different issue. That being said, I agree that the "12-18 months" that's advertised is overly conservative.
-Every winter my DEF (again, what's in the truck) freezes and thaws...
Also, check for leakage from the small, black, plastic tube just above the water pump pulley and below the air hose going to the throttle body/intake manifold.
TC-Diesel: Your talking storage inside an environmentally controlled building. I'm talking once it's poured in the truck, being subject to summer heat, winter cold, freezing and thawing.
To clean the injector: Get yourself a cheap steam cleaner off Amazon and spray it. Comes right off. Oh, and do the same to the hole it's mounted in.
DEF does have a service life limit of about 6mos, give or take depending on how hot in your area, from when it was poured in the tank. Probably...
While mine the push-button start, I've had similar issues. Recently, it wasn't recognizing my fob. I looked around on youtube and tried a re-synch where you press two buttons on the fob at the same time, while in the truck with doors closed. Not sure if it's the same for the key style fobs.
Likely suspects: Turbo coolant tube under intake or EGR cooler.
The turbo coolant tube is two metal tube connected by a clamped rubber hose and is prone to failure. If you end up replacing it, there is an upgraded one-piece line with steel braid over the rubber section available.
Just for reference, I'm running an SFT stg 1, EGR restrictor (home made, about $5, been running it since 125k mi), and the Banks intake pipe (between filter and turbo). Everything else on the truck is stock - DPF, SCR, muffler, etc. Engine has just shy of 180k mi, and when I changed my oil...
" ... or if you've ever owned a classic Ferrari or Lamborghini - that kind of "pathetic afterthought" of a blower system."
Classic Maserati is more like a mouse cough - "eh".
Running out of DEF won't damage the engine as it's only a treatment for exhaust gasses. The ECM is programmed to progressively limit the trucks speed when DEF runs out. I have heard of some tunes turning off the DEF system. That would also appear to make it possible for someone to turn it off...
I use both:
-Fuel: Power Service and/or Howes. Mainly for HPFP lubrication - it needs it, also raises cetane for better combustion.
-Oil: Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer. Extra lube/protection of main bearings - also needs it. Plus, previous experience with Lucas saving rebuilt engine from...
Now that USPS finally got around to delivering the new controller (It sat in OK City for a week), I can finish this story.
There are two P/Ns for the controller. The original (superseded) is 68149041AB. The new P/N (what I got) is 68282916AA. After installing the new unit and reinstalling...
Recently, I drove home and parked - everything normal. The next morning, it wouldn't start. Normal indications, but when cranking, it would try to light off a couple of cylinders then just spin. That weekend, I connected my code reader - no codes. Fearing the dreaded HPFP failure, I pulled...
