Just heard from the mechanic, turns out the counterweight has several hairline cracks and is unable to be replaced so they are saying the engine is shot, wouldn't surprise me if that being minorly off balance was causing the metal shavings to be in the filter somehow but I don't know enough...
I'm gonna let them know what I've been finding out from this post and other research I've been doing, to be fair I think I forgot to tell them that I found metal shavings in the oil filter so I'm gonna let them know next time I talk to them
Right now the truck is sitting at a mechanic, they say it's either a cracked or broken flex plate, torque converter, or counterweight, they are waiting for the first 2 parts to come on the 18th, and a broken counterweight means the engine needs to be replaced since they don't make them anymore...
Just yesterday my 2015 ecodiesel started making a loud, almost metal on metal sounding, ticking or knocking when idling and accelerating. I did an oil change on it since the oil life was reading 2% anyways, and the knock is still there. I currently have the injectors exposed but haven't removed...
