It’s not under warranty? I think the eco is 5 years or 100,000 miles. You are under the miles. Are you just over the years? Even if you are, I would argue strongly about how many failures just like this have occurred on this engine. Contact corporate with the same argument. Maybe they make a...
I had a coolant reservoir that would constantly lose coolant. The coolant in the radiator would remain full, but the coolant in the reservoir would fall well below the full line. The dealer took a look. Passed the pressure test. It did it again. They said that there is a nipple on the back of...

Here is the 2029 Ram 1500 towing and payload chart. Easy to read and you will not get contradictory information.
The Ram trucks are very nice. The ecodiesel is very smooth and gets great mileage along with very good towing characteristics for a half ton.
The problem is all of the premature failures and unreliability issues of the ecodiesel engine. It does have a well above average failure rate. I have a...
I change my own. Mine is a 2016 though. Buy a quick release oil drain valve. It is quick, easy, and clean to drain the oil. No need to jack the truck up as there is plenty of room to slide yourself under the truck. Easiest oil change vehicle I have ever owned. Just make sure to keep all receipts...
Our 2016 was somewhat similar. Went out at 57,000 miles last March. They replaced ours with a brand new engine under warranty. It was not the latest generation engine. It carries a 3 year, 100,000 mile warranty. I’ve heard rumors though that they are not making new anymore and only replacing...
I never leased a vehicle and I assumed everything would be covered by the dealer, but wasn’t considering down time. I would personally get a 2500 for towing a TT of these sizes. I had the truck first though. After my engine failure with low miles, I can’t recommend an ecodiesel over the hemi...
Jeff,
My camper is similar to yours and toe trucks. My truck has the 3.92 gear. It doesn’t struggle, but I never take it above 65mph and haven’t had any issues while towing. Since the weights are at the limits of the truck, I would opt for the 3.92. It will still get better mileage than the...
Being that you will be leasing the truck, I would not have any concerns with using the ecodiesel over the hemi. If you were buying, I would have concerns. I assume it is the latest generation ecodiesel as well and it may not have all of the problems of the previous eco, I don’t know.
But my...
Being that there is a high failure rate for the ecodiesel engines, I only use the mopar oil filter and only use the rotella t6 5/40 since Ram specifically mentioned that oil after they changed the weight of oil to be used in this engine. If you are still under warranty that is. I know that they...
I would go outside of the dealer and contact FCA themselves. I don’t have their number anymore, but when they get involved the process will likely be sped up.
Google 2018 Ram trailer towing chart. It shows all configurations for your truck and payloads and towing maximums. If you have a factory receiver, I believe it is a class4. The towing chart states the class 4 receivers have a 1100lb max hitch weight rating. You aren’t getting close to that with...
Before the settlement flash my normal temps were 199 coolant, 203 oil, and between 175-187 trans. Post flash, it runs a little hotter. Now 203 coolant, 206 oil, and trans remained the same.
Towing temps vary wildly depending on load and terrain.
Ram specifically recommended the T6, so that is exactly what I use. And while they shouldn’t do this per law, if you ever need a warranty repair, it is one more thing to try to shut down a claim. This engine has so many issues, I would not chance anything.
I had that code this summer. It came on, but the truck continued running perfectly fine. I took it to the dealer. They cleared the code out and found nothing wrong. They said it possible the fuel may be borderline or it could have been a glitch and this was fairly common. Months and thousands of...
Also, when you say new engines come with the same inherent risk, I assume you are talking about the same generation replacement engine and not the latest generation, correct?
I wonder if they could install the latest generation engine in under a warranty situation. It is basically the same transmission and I would guess the engine mounts are the same. The computer module would have to be replaced unless they could do a factory reset with the new engine codes in it...
