Hello everyone.

This is my first post to the forum. I'm new to Ram and to ecodiesel and have run into a significant problem with my 2022 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel that I purchased used from Ram in March 2025 (with 42k miles). It is a certfied pre-owned so I have that going for me. I've always found forums to be an incredible wealth of knowledge. I think I'm just really looking for your opinion if any of these issues are connected, dealer issue, or something else?

Also, is it worth it to file a concern with Stellantis to try to find a resolution? Would that help or hurt? I've not have the truck for 55 days now.

The story:

Two days prior to my purchase, the dealership completed the High Pressure Fuel Pump recall. About 2.5 months (and 3k miles) later, I noticed a small amount of oil on our garage floor from two spots. We took it to our local dealer for repairs. That was June 23rd. We have not had use of our truck since. Our timeline:

Oil Leak: June 23rd - July 17th - replaced 2 valve cover gaskets that were leaking. I picked up vehicle, drove it 18 miles home. Upon arriving home, noticed smoke from the engine, diesel fuel pouring out of bottom. Visible spray coming from a fuel injector. Towed back to dealer.

From here it gets crazy. From July 21st through August 17th, I have been advised by the dealer 5 times that they repaired the diesel leak. Each time, I test drive it and bring it back for a diesel leak. This last time, there are now new issues.

Repair 1 - Replaced Injector O-Ring;
Repair 2 - Replaced Injector
Repair 3 - Advised us that fuel hose not secured properly - reattached.
Repair 4 - Advised us that the clip that holds the fuel hose to injector was bad - replaced clip.
Repair 5 - Advised us that the fuel hose clip was bad - replaced fuel hose

Repair 6 (ongoing) - Now, the fuel injector appears fixed, but there is still visible diesel dripping (albeit less) from the back of engine which covers the lower cross beam / sway bar and transmission case. There is also now a "chirping" sound when accelerating (and 'chirps' faster as the RPMS increase) that was not present prior to this last repair. Additionally, the engine makes a "puffing" sound (like a steam locomotive) when at idle - both coming from the passenger side engine compartment. Note: I get how hard it can be to diagnose something based on describing noises in a forum. It's all I got as I couldn't get a video of this at the moment. I do not even know what those sounds could be now.

I'm going to read more forum posts this week but given that I'm in this right now and expect to talk to the dealer later this week, I'm curious if you all have any thoughts on what might be going on here.

Appreciate ya'lls time.

Frankly I went through a similar experience with my first year Ram 1500 Ecodiesel. At 95K in the middle of nowhere Utah the engine went into “limp mode” and a $1,000 tow back to Grand Junction, CO.

I was without my truck for 9 months while Stellantis engineers tried to fix it. Finally under the extended warranty they had issued for my truck they replaced everything from the gas tank to the entire top half of my Ecodiesel.

I immediately traded it in for the 5.7 Hemi and never looked back. IMHO the Ecodiesel is the worst engine ever built no matter what generation engine it is. If your state has a “Lemon Law” I recommend you exercise your rights and GET RID OF YOUR ECODIESEL as soon as possible. You’re looking at another disaster to happen in the future if you keep it.

It really sounds like a poor mechanic or service technician. My thoughts would be to try another dealer or service department honestly.
