Pardon me for my ingorrance on this subject as this is my first diesel and I was wondering as to how the oil cooler functions. I was aslo wondering if by letting your vehicle warm down will it help prevent this issue???
Thanks,

Wainow very little about this but the oil cooler is a small aluminum box on the left side of the engine, driver side, that has both oil and coolant lines going through it to cool the oil as the engine runs. I have no idea if letting the engine Warm down would affect the cooler life but doubt it.

Yes! At this point I would entertain aftermarket even
my truck is almost ready today. there are still flushing the system after replacing the radiator, oil cooler, coolant reservoir, thermostat, and changing the oil and filter.they are flushing the system using dawn detergent and water. They have used half a bottle or about 8 oz of dawn. markings on the old oil cooler show it to be made looks like October 2013 in China. the truck was made October 2014 and is a 2015 truck. See the20150909_144348.jpg 20150909_144356.jpg 20150909_144335.jpg code numbers on the attached pictures.

See radiator fluid/oil sample collected before work began. The new oil cooler is still made in China. Look at this China # and the previous picture # ... symbol and middle number is different but that probably only has to do with the date made. I didn't get to see the model # and can't get to it when installed on the engine but mechanic said the model # ended in a different last #. Interesting 20150911_193815-1.jpg 20150911_195116.jpg 20150911_232425.jpg 20150911_232121.jpg ... I noticed the oil cooler for the transmission is made in Canada.20150911_193815-1.jpgView attachment 298

Would love for alliant power or someone to come out with an aftermarket. They build them for a lot of engines and build a good product.
