All this talk about additives, got me curious and reading about Shell special formula, I am tempted to try it. I guess I talk myself into it. LOL.

My next fill up, I will pay the extra 8 cents (8.00 more for a fill up) and test it out. I don't expect to see a big difference on a first tank, but perhaps by the time I get to empty, I may see some indications. I post my observations.

I don't want to fool around with containers, bottles, etc. So, if filling up once in awhile from shell does the same, I go that route.

I by fuel at Costco where I am at here and I do see people putting in additive from a bottle at the pump. I personally have not used any yet. I think most modern fuels today have the engine additives you need. Now if you are STORING fuels that is another story.

Unfortunately, Costco in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, don't sell Diesel fuel. When I used gas, I did fill up there occasionally. Most of the time, the line up are just too long and for a few pennies difference, I often fill up elsewhere.

All stations diesel fuel have anti-gel, though most don't have cetane booster or rust/cleaner additives, as claimed by Shell. I will give Shell a try, but I sure don't want to fool around with bottles. So far, I haven't.

Greedy Commercialism often requires to separate facts from fiction, unfortunately... Dieselgate

Okay, I did my first fill up with Shell Diesel V-Power. Tank was very empty. Shell Canada, claims to add Cetane booster, anti-gel, water dispersion, anti-rust and cleaners and lower sulphur, etc. See their site for details.

Filled up south of Calgary. Started driving in town, my Soot was 32 percent, within 4 km, it climb to 34 percent, after that, things changed. I drove 12 KM and it climb only to 36 percent. Just turned 36 when I stopped at destination.

During summer my REGEN distance with the regular diesel fuel was about 90 km in the city, (Soot starts at 9 percent and REGEN at 65 percent usually) over 200-300 KM or so on highway.

When engine is cold and it zero or colder, without winter covers, the soot would climb 1 percent every 2 or 3 km. Since putting on the winter covers, it climbs much slower. Either way, the truck hasn't used that much DEF. I added only 10.00 worth at Fying J once, and closing in on 18,000 km

So far, it seems less Soot buildup with this fuel. If the pattern continues, then it seems to indicate, the regular diesel is very junky.

Too soon to tell, if it is more peppy, no indication it isn't.

I also notice my fuel economy improved very quick. This particular drive I be in the 10 to 11 km/pr100 range. Going south to north, and steady slow climb up. But it was 9.3 on this drive gong south to north.

In the past, going north to south, I usually get in the 9-10 I haven't taken a trip with this fuel going north to south.

It will take several fill up to see if there is a difference, so far first impression, seem to say yes, better fuel economy, less Soot.

Need to test over several variables, temperature, etc. Today, it was Zero or - 2 or so Celsius.

I keep you posted on the good or bad...

Okay, I did almost 1000 KM on the tank using Shell V-power. Half was highway driving, the other half was city driving. So my fuel economy is: 23 us gallon, 27 imperial gallon. However my last trip that was all highway, but using regular diesel, my fuel economy is: 31 us gallon, 38 imperial gallon.

I decided to fill up again with the Shell V-power diesel and test a bit more. I probably will do it a third time.

Okay, I felt a large improvement by the time, I was finishing off the second fill up of Shell V-power. No hesitation, even when cold, feels very, very responsive. Engine sound smoother, less diesel sound, it seems. That wasn't the case before using this fuel.

It was so noticeable, that I fill up the third time, it cost me 80 cent a litre. The cheapest diesel was going for 70 cents a litre.

I haven't taken a highway trip like on my last trip using cheap diesel, so too early to see the difference. My driving is too variable on the last 3 fill ups for fuel economy comparison.

Just about to hit 20,000 KM and all is well, no issue, no visit to service department or a list of to do.

I'm on my sixth fill up of the Shell V-Power diesel. Spreadsheet seems to indicate an improvement in fuel, but need a year to be sure, as the weather is warning up and one has to take into consideration engine break in period, if there is such a thing in the EcoDiesel.

It seems to drive so much better, which why I'm still using it. Fuel prices are low, so may as well take advantage of it. I'm averaging 850 KM (metric) and higher per tank full mileage. A couple of times, I hit 930 KM on a tankful.

Also, check local Canadian Tire Auto shop and the cost of additives pretty well cost the same as paying 8 cents a litre more. No mess or exposure to chemicals.

Good info, thanks @seiko

BoostN....when I was an OTR, I got better fuel mileage using the diesel that the Flying J truckstop's sold. I've also had a 2007.5 2500 w/6.7L Cummins, but I don't remember what kind of mileage I got in it.
