Lawsuit: Defeat Device in EcoDiesel?
Is Fiat-Chrysler’s (FCA) EcoDiesel engine not so “eco-friendly” after all?
A new lawsuit says certain EcoDiesel trucks and SUVs contain a defeat device – similar to the one VW got caught cheating with – to conceal nitrogen oxide emission levels.
“The proposed class-action lawsuit targets about 150,000 model year 2014–2016 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and 2014–2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel vehicles that allegedly cost $4,700 more than normal because of “clean” emissions technology.”
Based on court documents, the only way these vehicles can achieve the holy trinity (fuel economy, towing power, performance) is to intentionally turn off the engine’s emissions treatment when the vehicle is on the road.
The lawsuit says Bosch has been working with FCA to skirt around the rules for years. Bosch has been under investigation for the role they played in the VW mess.
