Cooling Fan Issues

Some how; my cooling fan stopped working and i didn't know, yet.......It's been cold back east, so I don't know how long i have been running with out the fan working, guess a couple of weeks maybe.

Stopped at a drug store pick up window, 55 degrees outside., Ended up sitting for about 15-20 minutes waiting for them to get things right with my order. Next thing i hear is my Edge IN alarm going off. No engine light, No codes. Nothing but the temps going up.
Eng temp 230 degrees, what.

I get back on the road and everything goes back to normal temps, get home and the fan is not running.
will not run with the AC on.

Go to the dealer, the word was blown fused on the battery block, and shorted out motor. What?
So had to order a new Fan, fuse block, and install ? out of Warranty of course. $ 585.00 to get replaced.
No one knows or could explain why this happen or how. Something caused this to happen.

This is my first issue with the truck, love this truck. 42k on it right now. I am also noticing that it seams that the AC is running all the time. it not turned on. but the cooling hoses were sweating yesterday and it still only 55 degrees outside.

ANY ONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE ? OR MAY KNOW IF WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS ISSUE.

If the fan motor seized, it would cause the fuse to blow. A blown fuse will not cause the the motor issue. The fuse will blow if someone attempts to use the battery mounted fuse block when jump starting. It sounds like your seized fan moteor was the problem and the fuse did its job and protected the circuit.

The A-C will run any time if defrost mode is being used. If you have the auto HVAC, the system will determine when the A-C runs.

Well you hit on one thing for sure, I did leave the something turned on over the weekend, and on the following Monday the battery was dead.
I called AAA to come jump start the truck and left it with the wife, not knowing when they would show up. Later that day AAA guy had a hard time starting the truck she said, then he had to use the jumper cables to get enough power to the battery. The small hand battery pack do not have enough amps to turn it over. Maybe that would explain the blown fuse block on top of the battery.

Fan motor seized, i don't think so, i could spend it with my finger , not problem. Even the new fan motor i can spend it with no effort;. 850 watt motor, it still spends freely driving down the road. So i don't think it seized up. ( unless the ice storm froze it somehow) .

Yes i did run the defrost mode a lot.

When jumper cables are used, the positive MUST be attached to the battery terminal itself. If one of the Z-case fuses are used the fuse will blow. So it sounds like this is what happened. The fan motor should not have shorted as a result of jump starting though. Perhaps the dealer suspected a shorted fan motor is what blew the fuse. Not at all unusual for a dealer to misdiagnose at the owners and/or manufacturers expense.

Hey John, do you know how to check these fuses? Is it visual or can I check with a multimeter? There’s 4 of them on my truck and they all look the same just different amps.
