Ecodiesel deleted and needs recall done

I have a 2015 Ram 1500 ecodiesel that is deleted. And it stalled out on me going down the road. The code it was reading was for the crankshaft position sensor. Which I see is a recall. I’m wondering if the dealership will fix the recall and if the computer being flashed will delete the tune and put the truck in limp mode. I do not have a tuner to put the flash back on. This is why it’s bothering me to get it done.

I doubt whether any warranty or recall work will be done on a deleted truck. Take it to a transmission shop as they will have experience pulling the tranny that is required to access the tone ring and CPS.

Your tune is at risk at any dealership, they may cover the tone ring, but you are likely to get the updated Software , and than your dash will be a lighted up with just about every MIL/CEL/Code associated with deleted components missing.

Is there a possibility I could get them to not to put the updated software on the truck? I bought this truck 6 years ago and it was already deleted and didn’t come with a tuner so i am not sure if the guy had a tuner previously or if he bought a computer that had the deleted software on it. Don’t know if I could buy a tuner and program it. I don’t even know where to begin with looking for what tuner to get if I am able to do this

If not taking to the dealership what’s a round about number on how much it would cost to have a diesel mechanic or somebody do this job? I know the transmission has to come out so I know it’s going to be pricey.

My guess 800.00 -1200.00 plus parts.

That’s not as bad as what I was expecting I was thinking $2000 or more. Might just have somebody do it. A lot of diesel mechanics around my area don’t like working on these ecodiesels.

Would Dodge replace the tone ring under the recall or would they just put the update software. Cause I am reading that majority of the issues are the tone wheel delaminating and not the sensor

If it dilaminates the sensor must be replaced, in order for the recall to be paid the tech must update software.

Dang so I am probably better off paying to get it fixed somewhere else if I don’t want the computer flashed. I did see something on molar saying that they would reimburse if I fix it somewhere else. Is this only true if I did it before the recall came out or could I still get reimbursed for it now?

Update just got off the phone with FCA and they said I have a choice on getting the tone wheel replaced and not getting the computer flashed. So that was my biggest problem was getting my tune wiped out.

If you take it to a dealer, you had better be specific and clear, because, I doubt whoever you talk to knows the ins and outs of every independent Dealership policy on repairs.

You don't need a diesel mechanic for this work. The tone ring and CPS have nothing to do with it being a diesel. Just try a good transmission shop!
