What is the reason for not using an after market fuel filter to save money? Thanks!

Fuel Filter

Manual states that fuel filters have to be rated at 3 micron. I have not found and aftermarket fuel filter that has this rating. I have found some after markets filters that claim 4 micron. Probably would be ok, but these fuel systems are very sensitive and I personally would not chance it just to save a few dollars. Suggested fuel filter service interval is 20k, so for most folks that is less than once a year.

I replaced my aftermarket filter last night and the rubber oring inside the filter that seals the pickup tube To the filter was very weak and poor quality. The oem seems to be a lot better made, and the clearances are a lot tighter.

I bought my truck used and when I changed the filter the first time I found the paper element had started to degrade on an aftermarket, cheap filter. The OEM are way better and actually are the 1st defense to control moisture.
