Oil Change intervals

My 2019 EcoDiesel has 10200km on it. My computer shows I have 29% remaining before oil change is required. The Owner’s manual states to rely on the computer to tell me when service is required and to not exceed 16000 km. The Dealer tells me I am overdue and should have had service done at 8000 km. I called FCA Canada and they said that they would refer to the Dealer’s advise as they are the experts and I should rely on their advise. I don’t get it. The Manufacturers recommendations are very clear in their reference to the Owner’s manual and the truck’s information Center. I have had numerous diesels before this and have never had such a short service interval as recommended by the Dealer. Any comments?

Fennske, if you told your dealer you are towing he is going to categorize that as severe duty and will cut your oil change interval in half. If this is the first oil change and the engine has a special break in oil it is often at a lesser interval than normal. It doesn't say anything in the maintenance schedule other than running biodiesel. Is this a new dealer you are using?

I didn’t mention towing (I haven’t towed anything yet) and they didn’t mention break in oil. They are an old established dealership. They showed me a schedule which says required service is every 8000km. I basically use it as my daily driver, ie: a car with a box. I previously have owned several BMW X5 diesels and they, like my Ram, had a computer that reminded you when service is required at an interval of about 16000km. I have owned several Duramax diesels as well. All with approximately 16000km service intervals

Possibly they are as a dealer, trying to avoid as many of these engines puking on people. But I dont think that would fix it, it's more in the operation of it and so on. I assume you are still with in the recommended time interval? Never exceed 1 year, or 6mth on B20 fuel

On my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel it started out with 5 - 30 oil then the FCA requirement came out to go to 5:40 oil. I have a friend who is a lubrication specialist and we decided to try the 15- 40 oil with the same additives that the 5 - 40 had and have been extremely happy with results. Course I'm not gun shy I'm trying something different as my vehicle is paid for in full and I'm not worried about my warranty anymore. I am concerned about longevity and I think the 15-40 will give me more longevity but probably a little less mileage.

If I had gone through the nightmare that some of you have had I am not sure that I would still have an EcoDiesel.
