I owned a 2016 eco diesel . I’ve been reading a lot of information regarding these trucks. I’m not going to even try to pretend that I understand about mechanics, engines, etc.
I purchased the truck new. Took it back to origin of purchase for maintenance/repairs. Until 4 weeks ago I was very happy with the truck.
I received a message via radio that I had to consent to a update (over the air). At first I chose to ignore the update since it didn’t concern the mechanics of the truck. Much to my aggravation my stero was “held hostage “. So I did the update. The next morning exactly same thing. Mandatory update or no radio.
. I did the update then the truck went into limp mode. I couldn’t get it to go over 50 mph. So I contact the dealership who asked me to bring it in. At 50mph that was the longest 22 miles I’ve driven.So the dealership has it a few days and finally contacts me stating the code is : service electric throttle control and that I need new injectors. This was done. Picked the truck up. Drove it home no issues. Two days later I drive the truck again Long story short, within 15 miles the truck is back in limp mode (nothing on dash) no warning. Now I’m really angry. Next thing I know the truck is in flames. Several people used fire extinguishers to not effect. Even fire department had a time putting it out. It literally went from a small fire somewhere under the hood to totally engulfed within a 3 minute period.
The terrifying thing is that at first I didn’t know it was on fire. A gentleman pulled up beside me screaming I was on fire. When I pulled off the road and put the truck in park the cab filled with black smoke. Within 3 minutes it was gone.
Our insurance company has stated that it was not the injectors. They think it started somewhere under the battery or in that area.
Insurance doesn’t want to pay for “specialist” . I filed a claim with Chrysler and supposedly one of their inspectors went out yesterday . Haven’t heard from them yet. Anyone else had this trauma ?
