i hear def has a shelf life,a tank should run 7 to 10 thou depending on driving conditions, is there an additive to extend this, my question is if my truck sits all winter, could i expect a problem and what type of problem would it be?

DEF Degrades after a certain amount of time (usually 1 year). Cummins states that if you're in extreme temps (between 10F & 90F) it could reduce the shelf life.

Any truck that uses DEF is pretty sensitive. If you're storing the truck for a long period of time I would think you'd be better better off getting the most out you can. I'm unaware of any DEF additive.

There is nothing you can add and please don't.If you plan to leave truck sit all winter do not have the DEF tank more than 3/4 full as it
can ,and may freeze and will expand the tank and it will crack.Info I have got from the manufacture(s) shelf life is good for about a year
that is in a sealed container in a cool place. You will use up what is in your tank and you should not have a problem.I did not drive my
Ram last winter but I started it at least once a week let it warm up,and don't forget battery,DEF tank heater and fuel filter always drawing
power from battery be to keep battery up.
