Eco's were catching on fire 1-2 years before AEM....IMO the American Side of Fiat is not the problem, its Fiat's relationship to VM at Cento Italy.....Fiat beloved VM 3.0....LMBO.
When your house Burns down or catches fire the FD launches investigation WHY...FCA has had two + years of fires on the ED 3.0 and to my knowledge turns its nose up in the air, NO different than the EPA lies of NO wrong doing. Fires are increasing weekly.... beside the two report in the last 7...
Does the truck sit outside? Rodent possibly, was the sound foam intact or removed...
The common denominator with most fires is the turbo area...but some have burst into flames hrs and even days later after being shutdown.
They will check its operation, If it triggers the P0245 ( I think that's the Code#) the dealer Will pass on the AEM.
It has the thermo-couple to Check Temp if the spread is to great it will trigger code(s)
If this is your 1st Diesel ,its not the one to Buy used, Just to risky.. and I say this to ALL used Buyers, Buying Used generally you are buying someone Problems, so adjust the price to include $2-4K in repairs.
Most retail stations Pumps in N/A have filters downstream if the station pump was self destructing such large particles would have been captured, Unless the bypass was engaged in the filter, When that happens the pump volume is extremely slow. and you would know it ,its like 1QT per 5...

"Personally know someone that blew 3 engines within 36k miles on a 2015 ecod. Truck was a short drive grocery getter type use with occasional long trips. He now drives a Ford F150 ecoboost. Everytime I see him... One of my questions is " what the F did you do to your ecod to blow 3...
When Duramax owners listen to TC and install Auxiliary/Transfer fuel filtration I have CP4s on My shelf that went over 500K miles, its rare but their life span is equal to CP3s when good fuel is used, the real problem with CP4s ,when their fail they are particle makers, the CP3 just blows up...
That's the best info you have type in this thread.
John, I answer your questions in this thread. Please post something relevant to Helping the OP.
OP needs to investigate what the Dealer is claiming. or it will leave him stranded again.
The OP stated its hard to ignore what possibly may occur...
Everything I stated about the VM3.0 became true.
May 2015 to Present
John would be cheering on for His loosing team with a minute left in the 4Th QT and 2 fans in the stands at a Score of 84 to 0.

Find more than a handful of owners that grocery get, or used in DD that have with 100K miles on Factory OP, ( don't give me your Tuned BS) that the ERG/Plenum is clean and worthy of continue operation. they all will look like this.
I will NEVER own another engine form EUR, its My 2ND EUR power...
Why did the system NOT throw any codes, it has a thermo sensor just before the EGR valve? IMO the only way for the returning gases to have burned a hole in the plenum is long running idle time and valve stuck open, that just does not seem to be the case in the OP post.
How the Dealer comes up...
Its My understanding its Mix in other words 2 ERG coolers and inlets to plenum...The exiting one with the additional Post DPF EGR.
Cat Tried this, When the DPF is in Active Regen the ECM Shuts the Post ERG down and it runs the existing or main EGR, the ECM manages both when in passive...
