Yes, its normal for VM 3.0, IMO its NOT acceptable and Very costly.

Look inside your Plenum Just think what that's doing to Your Swirl and Intake Valves.

Check out your MAP Sensor.

Yes I clean that as well and it was plugged up. I just cleaned it less than a 1000 miles ago. I can only imagine what the cooler is like.

Yeah, tune the engine and it will stay nice and clean, plus your EGR won't leak (no heat no leak)

Can the dealer tell the EGR cooler is full by running diagnostics or do they physically have to pull it and look at it? I'm thinking they are just giving me a line of BS since why wouldn't they tell me the first time that it was full of soot when they ran diagnostics instead of having me come in two more times and spend more $$$ to tell me the third time it's full ....... or is it.

I cleaned my EGR diffuser and EGR sensor and magically the engine light went off.

The CEL will disappear for some time after you cleaned the Tube/MAP, ( they will return)They are the weak links in the system, THE EGR when restricted will throw codes (Rationale) differences, their is a thermo-coupler in the EGR valve area that measures heat, if the EGR is plugged/Restricted the heat differences will be calculated and if its too wide it will trip EGR flow codes.

So yesterday I was on the road and put on about 350 miles. This morning I leave the house and get the regen messages on my dash. WTF.20190503_081623.jpg

Take it to hwy speeds for 8-10 miles , hopefully it will start the count down 90%-80%-70% until the message is gone

Oh, I did and my continuing complaint to the dealer - "Why should I have to go drive my vehicle, just so I can drive my vehicle?"

My point is, why would my vehicle have to be doing a regen after I drove it 350 highway miles the day before?

Because their still is ash in the DPF being pickup by the sensors (back pressure) , You probably need stationary De-sooting 2-3 Times to get the ash burnout, or NEW DFP. It takes someone with the work around to do it sufficiently ( WITech). or it just keeps coming back.

I was told that if you put 1000 pounds in the bed and drive it constantly at a speed where you force it to run at least 2k RPM for 20 minutes that you will burn out soot from the DPF and force a regen. Do that a few times and you could clear it. No? Beats going to the dealer.

Semi's build ash also pulling 50 times that amount, its the fact its stationary, NOT under load that cleans out the ash , its simply much hotter, Plus you are not creating soot. and it can last up to 40 minutes, My guess Active Regens time out after x lapsed use.
