This is my first time posting. Like many of you, it is because I have a concern about the maintenance of my truck and I don't trust what my dealership service department is telling me. My truck is a 2017 Ram Ecodiesel with just over 30,000 kms. In August I had my oil changed at the dealership as part on my extended warranty package. There were staffing issues in the service department that day. Long story short, the service on my truck was postponed to the end of the day, just before closing. The oil change, lube and tire rotation were completed in 1/2 an hour After a few hundred kms of driving, I noticed my Oil Life Indicator had dropped 4% already. After driving 2000kms I received a notice that my oil life was 0% and required changing. I was suspicious that the dealer put in the wrong oil, so I took a sample for analysis before taking it back to the dealer. I have attached the description of the problems the dealer found and the oil analysis. Am I right to still suspect that the wrong oil was put in my truck?

I cannot understand the 2.1 Alum & 1.4 copper PPM generally reads PPM= 000 so Alum PPM 2.1 means what?

No wrong lube on 1 change is NOT going to destroy the motor, But with CAL so high its most likely Euro Spec Lube.

Alum. 2.1 PPM
Copper 1.4 PPM

Sounds good to me. Blackstone Universal averages are 6 PPM for alum. and 3 PPM for copper.

They probably forgot to reset the oil life.

I thought that it was the case, Just wanted to make sure. That additive package would not be My preferred lube, I don't care for lube with high CAL and low Moly / Mag.

Hmmm, this one is not quite as good as the first 2! Any thoughts or input? What would contribute to increased fuel levels?

Dilution of oil with diesel fuel is usually caused by excessive active regeneration caused by short trip driving especially in cool temps. Change your oil more frequently or stop taking short trips. Or do a full delete and never worry about it again. My understanding is that this is the central "flaw" in the ecodiesel's regeneration method. Isuzu's small engine (Chevy) injects the fuel further downstream so it does not have this problem. It will be interesting to see if the 2019 / 2020 Ram handles regen different.

It just good be fluke Sample...I've never Seen T6 with such low additive levels of Moly-Mag and such High levels of Cal-Boron.

Test again at 7K miles

Here is my first oil analysis, ever, in any kind of vehicle. I thought I would try it. I did not change on miles, I only do it based on the oil minder. I have changed it at 15% life remaining since I got the truck. I have done all my own oil changes except for the first 4, which were done by the dealer. The oil in this analysis is the Rotella T-6. The lab says the engine is healthy.

CS, IMO that's NOT T6 or fluke, the Cal is double , Boron high, the Moly/Mag is 6-10 times not enough.

TC, Rotella T-6 is all I have used up until this last oil change and I have not used any additives previously. Maybe there was a change when they went from CJ-4 to CK-4? Maybe they give Walmart cheap stuff in the 2.5 gallon jugs? I don't know.

I will comment that Ford said no CK-4 oil in its powerstrokes, maybe you are seeing the reason why in the additives package.

I'm thinking fluke sample it happens, that's why Trends are necessary to be used for determination of R/R. My guess the next sample will mirror My results, None the less the wear levels are Great.

I asked the lab if the difference in results is because of the difference between CJ-4 and CK-4 Rotella T-6. I will let you know what they say.

I switched oils (looks like for no reason!) The next sample will be the Valvoline Blue synthetic Turbo Diesel oil, I am hoping it is good as well. If not i will switch back.

You said "None the less the wear levels are Great". I am very hopeful I got that perfect "made on a wednesday" engine that never has a problem.

Valvoline will not have the additive package for ICD equal to T6.
