what kind are you thinking?

Kind, or you mean person? I would see what tuning company wants to work with you. Sofa King Tuned comes to mind as a few other custom tuners doesn't seem to do much performance tuning.

Usually compound kits and other heavy mods require the the tuning to be dialed in to get the best possible experience!

I wasn’t sure if you meant a new OBD port tuner came out for the ECO’s that I wasn’t aware of.

I think I’ll call GDE in the morning and see if my Off-road tune from them would suffice, or if I’d be better off getting a new, higher gains tune to do this.

Welcome back to this thread a couple years later everyone! Trucks just been paid off and I remembered that was when I was gonna start seriously considering the compound turbo kit.

now the H&S turbo kit price is 3200$, so a 1100$ drop in price is definitely the right direction. My mechanic said the current price is about normal for all the stuff.

I have two mainly curious questions, which I can always get one answered by calling GDE. Would their tune be okay to run with a compound kit? Or am I “losing/missing out” because it’s not as much HP gains like SFT or PPEI?

second question is the kit doesn’t come with an aftermarket intercooler I don’t think. Would one be necessary? Or just highly recommend

any input greatly appreciated
H&S has discontinued the compound turbo for the Ecodiesel. Does anyone else make an aftermarket turbo for this truck?

Have you looked into Maserati's (A630) aftermarket parts? I know they are rated at a slightly higher power from the factory(275 hp, 443 ft-lbs torque). Not sure if they have a different turbo, but in some of my previous research, I came across a US company that sells aftermarket parts. Might be worth giving them a try, especially if you can find a bolt-on setup:

As I looked more into it, to spend 3200$ and still be bottlenecked at the stock turbo outlet, idk if it’s really the best option. I was doing some light reading on guys changing out the housing on the stock turbo to get more through it, but I don’t know any specifics on it really. I kinda dropped the idea and settled with the fact that once my Ecodiesel goes, I’ll just get a cummins for more power

I thought I was the only one who wanted more out of my ecodiesel. I just want to hit about 350HP and if it puts me at 550TQ or more I am more than content. I just want to know if the stock internals will hold and who offers a kit. So far the only place I found that offers anything remotely close to what I want is Black Haze Workshop, but they are not shipping anything from Canada to the US which puts me SOL.

Just have to throw my 2 cents in...Cleaning this tiny engine up....It seems it was designed for an automobile then adapted to the ram truck...top end designed to breathe lots of valves, dohc to move all the valves, high turbo boost, and then to meet epa buried with sensors, choked with exhaust filter/cat/ recirculate exhaust /killing inlet air with heat and carbon...
The basic engine is no cummins or detroit BUT repeat BUT a really nice start IF repeat IF you can feed it clean air and allow the turbo to exhaust without restrictions..
Putting more boost on an already marginal bottom end?
If you just remove all the exhaust restrictions, and that intake abomination, install a mild tune/tranny tune in my humble opinion you are still going to have a marginal bottom end ...will it last ?
Since I have just done that on a gen 3 engine in a 2014 4x4 ...we will see
Now 8k plus miles , great driving truck..
Would I add more boost??? nope..because I think the bottom end with my stage 2 tune is under enough strain..
How is the performance? According to dyno runs I have seen on Utube with a tune the RWH is awesome...
My other ride is a deleted 6,7 cummins/stick and a sschevy 415 hp.. To me this tiny eco has a lot of oomph..
Will I drag it NOPE time will tell but cleaned up this tiny engine is a real sleeper.

I agree, the bottom ends on these things is weak. I was gonna get a tune, then I spun my bearings. Looking at the bottom end, with big ends just 16.9mm (about 80 thou less than 3/4") wide, and crank webs as thin as 8mm (5/16"), there is no way I will be adding more horsepower. But what I did do while the thing was apart, was weld shut the EGR pipe that goes into the inlet manifold (welded frost plug in at EGR valve end). Required a program adjustment to turn off the EGR valve so MAP sensor would not put it into limp mode. But now, the truck has way more power than it used to, and the turbo lag is gone. All I need to do is get rid of the stupid downshifting (engine braking) when going downhill and I'll be set. This is what EGR feeds into these engines.......

Hate to see good people blow hard earned $...
The gen 2 eco has had a lot of mystery issues,,, But the bottom end obviously is not bulletproof.
Yup the carbon may be the root cause BUT other engines with carbon injection (epa goodies) have fewer failures.
The gen 3 had a tweek on bearing size as they obviously knew the issue.
Adding boost to a gen 2 ?????
My totally repeat totally deleted gen 3 with banks intake,(no swirl valves) clean turbo back exhaust -is a lot more performance than I expected. .
The EOC stage 2 note I did not buy stage 3 provides a great ride...no not a drag machine BUT not a sleepy ride..
I have built many many engines from the crank up most modified...this tiny highly boosted DOHC design is a great light duty engine..But I know the bottom end is not like my 6.7 cummins
Once I built a 322 "nail valve" buick in an early vette, Howards supplied the only cam they told me it would not work on the road....2 4 barrels, spagetti headers, sl;icks, off the line even with the bikes,,,a real head turner......idled? at 1100 rpm
ran 4800 miles, took out the lifters...BUT boy a really fun 4800 miles...
Higher boost on a gen 2 or 3 ????? I doubt 4800 miles...
