Welcome. I would advise to read around on the forum to gather opinions and make your own judgement.
For the code, all I can find is the DEF level is low...
Seems like a nice platform to use. I love how tuners can just push an updated tune to your device without having to mess with a laptop and email. The future is now.
I just moved the "buyback" posts to this thread: https://www.ecodieselram.com/forum/threads/the-u-s-officially-sues-fca-over-ecodiesel-emissions.1385/
I'd like to focus on the failure with this thread, not "what ifs".
Most of the time, you get a certain amount of warranty with these places. Even if it's 90 days, it gives him time to trade it off .. a running ( and not knocking ) truck is going to bring a lot more money.
Check out Car-Part.com
They sell parts from wrecks.. looks like they have a lot of complete engines.. ranges from 3000K to 8K.
Example, this looks like a decent price.. If you could find a mechanic to do the swap you'd be in better shape than selling as is.. my opinion though.
Good luck!
I understand completely! It's nice you have another vehicle to use while this one is down.. keep us updated on what happens. I'm afraid a blown motor EcoDiesel is going to bring less than you think..
You need to visually inspect it. The worst case you have a hole in the block, and I don't think that's happen yet to my knowledge. Most of the time its an internal failure and you have to tear it down to see.
Ahh man, sorry to hear that..
If the dealer won't help you out, I would try to find a pullout motor and pay a reputable diesel shop to swap them. I'm thinking it's got to be cheaper than a new engine and install at the dealership.
Keep us updated.
I honestly wouldn't drive it.. if it is something that's fixing to let loose, finding an engine shop that could rebuild what you have might be cheaper than buying a entire new block.. but, I haven't priced either thankfully!
Welcome, hopefully your "knocking" issue is nothing catastrophic. That's proven to be costly out of warranty as @Brady mentioned.
When are you expecting to hear back from the dealer?
Welcome!
Some dealers have great diesel mechanics, others not so much. Hopefully they will find your issue. I'm assuming you're not pulling anything when it's overheating?
