oil change interval

Just had my first oil change done at a dealership. They are recommending an oil change to be done every 5k. and add this oil additive every oil change too. a little over kill? I mentioned at those prices I will do my own oil changes. this service rep said a licensed mechanic has to sign off on them to keep your warranty valid. first of all I thought synthetic oil can give you longer intervals to change oil. second a oil additive for synthetic oil? third if you keep your receipts for oil changes are valid enough for warranty. correct me if I am wrong any input? thx

The whole "has to sign off to keep your warranty valid" is bull. Tell them to show you the paper work and prove it. Friend of mine had Kia replace his motor right before it went out of warranty and showed the receipts where he changed his own oil and they honored it.
